It has been two years since Ambassador Generoso D.G. Calonge started giving recreational activities to Filipinos in Israel as part of his unlimited and continued service for his fellowmen. Sports-minded and energetic, he started the Chess and Bowling Tournament last year and also the Jesus Trail (a three-day walk tracing Jesus’ Holy Land journey).
This year the Ambassador’s Cup Chess Tournament took place at the Philippine Embassy conference room on Saturday, 5th of March 2014 at 8pm, with the collaborated efforts of HE Ambassador Calonge, his staff and the KAMPI (Kapatiran ng Manggagawang Pilipino sa Israel) organization. The event was successfully executed.
Ten chess enthusiasts composed the 5 pairs that competed for the top prize. Among them was an amazing young boy who, at his young age, showed his chess skills and strength in the mind game with the adults. After long hours of squeezing each other’s brain with the tricky and difficult moves, one man conquered the tournament exactly before midnight.
