The State of Israel is one of the foreign nations who responded immediately with an open heart to help the victims of typhoon Haiyan, the most powerful and strongest storm ever recorded in history that struck and killed thousands of people in Central Philippines. Though it was extremely devastating, at the same time it was heartwarming to witness the unparalleled kindness and services without hesitation of the Israeli people towards our mother land. It embodied the spirit of Israel doing God’s work to help humanity.
The IGOROT JERUSALEM GROUP AND FRIENDS ORGANIZATION was deeply touched and could not thank enough the Israeli people as they worked in tandem with the different Filipino tribes based in Jerusalem initiated by Ms. Bernadeth Malaya, rendering a THANKSGIVING MINI CONCERT on the eve of December 21 in their own unique way of paying tribute to the love, care and generosity of Israel. Moreover, it’s a sign of gratitude for being granted the opportunity to work as a caregiver in the Holy Land which is our “bread and butter”. The concert was commenced with an opening prayer by Ptra. Delia Gegway followed by the singing of the song “WE ARE THE WORLD”. Ms. Aimee Gonzales explained in English the significance of the event as Ms. Claire Bala-oy reiterated in Hebrew for better understanding to those who can’t understand English. Albeit the super freezing cold, it didn’t hamper every participant such as the SOWM, FBCI, JIL, TLORM, WIN, San Pedro Kalungsod Choir, and Ratisbonne who joined in with the group and showcased their talent in singing and dancing at Hamashbir, King George St. The beating of the gongs while dancing the Igorot cultural dance captured and allured Israelis who were gathered around and blissfully joined in dancing. To our amazement, there were Israelis who extended their hands as they expressed their appreciation. It was a simple event that meant a lot as we poured out our efforts wholeheartedly, enthusiastically conveying our gratitude successfully which matters the most. The concert ended with a shout for joy “THANK YOU, ISRAEL!”, closing with a prayer led by Ptr. Joseph Balong-angey.
The success of this event would not be possible without the pillars of support from Ms. Jo Anne Gonzaga who secured the permit from the municipality of Jerusalem, Ms. Minda Kilongan and Mr. Eugene Fayeng who secured the signature for the police permit, the guitarists and singers, Ptra. Josie Tawanga, Bernadeth Malaya, Myrna Diego, Glyza Malaya and Aimee Gonzales, and Lester Gapongli, April Wakat and Ladydianne Dungo for the printed sweatshirts as uniforms. Thank you, kudos and God bless us all!
